It was an exciting opportunity for attendees to explore the exciting developments and innovations on the horizon at WRMC.At the heart of our gathering was the unveiling of our recently opened multi-specialty clinic, representing a significant milestone in our commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services. The clinic boasts expanded service lines, including gastroenterology, neurosurgery, orthopedic spine, pain management, and more. These additions reflect our unwavering dedication to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the White Rock community.The event buzzed with anticipation as attendees toured the state-of-the-art facilities and learned about the cutting-edge technologies and resources available at WRMC. During the last year, the staff tracked specific measures related to strokes, such as venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis, antithrombotic therapy at discharge, smoking cessation support, and other measures.What’s more, White Rock Medical Center was honored with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognizing care for stroke patients who also have type 2 diabetes. This additional set of guidelines includes measures of care such as diabetes treatment and lifestyle change education.“This special honor roll recognizes our focus on providing proper care for patients who suffer stroke and diabetes with treatments rooted in evidence-based standards,” explained Dick. “Diabetes is a major risk factor for stroke. Focusing on these special set of patients can help reduce their risk of stroke.”

The hospital logged one year, that’s 365 days in a row, of no catheter-associated urinary tract infections, also known as CAUTIs.The rate of catheter-associated urinary tract infections is tracked by hospitals as a measurement to help monitor that patients are receiving safe care. CAUTIs can cause significant morbidity and mortality to our patients, especially the elderly, explained Pat Jackson, RN, director of infection prevention.“I’m so proud of our nursing staff and this incredible achievement,” she said. “Going a year without a CAUTI is a testament to the focus of our nursing staff on following our evidence-based recommendations to prevent these infections and getting indwelling urinary catheters out as quickly as possible.”Not many hospitals have achieved this milestone, according to Kelli Hohenstein, RN, chief nursing officer.“This accomplishment reflects the focused work of our team and the processes we’ve put in place to ensure safe care practices,” she said. “We’re on a mission to put quality and safety first. We are paving the way toward the highest standards, such as 100 Top Hospitals and Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A.”

In addition, the team conducted blood pressure checks for seniors in attendance at the fair. The event took place at a local church, and staff were able to meet and make connections with other partners who care for our community as well.“Last year, we could only convince a couple of seniors to check their blood pressure, but this year we checked someone’s blood pressure every five minutes! We served a real community service by participating in this event,” explained Melissa Grych, director of marketing and communications.

Roberts Elementary School on Aug. 9.Just five miles away from the hospital, the school is located in an area with many children and families in need, explained Gary Gulledge, referral coordinator in the Bariatric Clinic, who helped organize the donation drive at the hospital.Either through monetary gifts or donations of items, the team rallied to make sure the students have the supplies they need to support learning. The backpacks were stuffed with all kinds of supplies, including folders, paper, journals, rulers, scissors, pencils, glue and other much-needed items.Joyce Leonard, director of revenue integrity, and Monetta Ingram, revenue analyst, played an important behind-the-scenes role, visiting several different stores, shopping online, and bargaining with managers in order to get the best deals and stretch donations further. Some extra supplies were shared with the teachers as well.This is the second year White Rock has donated 60 backpacks to the elementary prior to the start of the new school year.
