White Rock Medical Center is a Primary Stroke Center. Our stroke care includes the expertise, support, medication, rehab and education to make sure you or your loved one has the life-saving care needed at a moment’s notice.

Certified Primary Stroke Center

White Rock Medical Center meets the rigorous requirements to achieve The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Primary Stroke Center Certification.

To earn certification, The Joint Commission regularly reviews the hospital’s model of care, patient volumes and outcomes, clinical practice guidelines, staff education and resources, stroke care governance, patient education and ongoing community education, among other requirements.

As a Primary Stroke Center, White Rock Medical Center’s provides urgently needed medication and treatment for strokes, and also ensures our patients leave with the needed support, medication, rehab and education they need to recover and live healthy lives.

BEFAST

Know the signs and symptoms of a stroke. Time is critical. If you suspect a stroke, seek emergency medical care right away so that you can have life-saving care and medicine.

Remember BEFAST:

  • Balance – Loss of balance, headache or dizziness
  • Eyes – Blurred vision
  • Face – One side of the face drooping
  • Arms – Arm or leg weakness
  • Speech – Slurred speech or difficulty speaking
  • Time – Time. Call 911 immediately if you suspect a stroke!

Stroke Risk Factors

You CAN reduce your risk of stroke. Called modifiable factors, they can be changed, treated or medically managed, such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • High cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • Abuse of drugs and alcohol
